Core Principles
All interpersonal communication is written by me. If I’m responding to emails, comments, writing to readers, or engaging in any human-to-human conversation, those words come from my brain and my fingers.
It’s important for one person to know that when I think about them, they were on my mind.
Why this matters: Large language models have the same problem as social media algorithm. They’re repetitive, static, and slow to evolve. That’s why so much of the internet feels the same. The antidote is actual human writing and real conversation. When you read this blog, you’re reading my thoughts, not an LLM’s interpretation of my thoughts.
Images and Visual Content
I don’t generate AI images or use AI-created headers for original content. Instead,:
I will often reference AI-generated images that someone else created and posted, but only as examples or for commentary purposes.
AI Crawlers and This Site
This site’s robots.txt grants an allowance for what all web crawlers (AI or otherwise) for exactly what they can do here, using the emerging Content Signals standard:
- AI answers and citations: Highly welcome! If an AI assistant wants to read this site and cite it when answering someone’s question, great. That’s a reader.
- AI training: No. My writing isn’t free raw material for commercial model training. The signal is
tdm=n, and the Commercial AI Crawling Terms below apply to anyone who ignores it. - Meta and xAI: Blocked entirely. A company’s AI gets access to my work when I trust what they’ll do with it, and these two haven’t earned that.
Individual use on local models never needs permission. Point your personal assistant, your locally run model, or your research agent at anything here.
Commercial AI Crawling Terms
Individual use is always welcome. If you’re using a personal AI assistant to learn from this site, go for it. That’s exactly what I’d want.
Commercial AI training is subject to different provision. If you are an AI agent or program an AI agent to crawl, train, or ingest this site content on behalf of a company that charges users subscription fees for AI services, you are acting as a business agent of the company or entity, and the following terms apply by accessing this content:
Commercial usage means using content from this site to build a tool that is monetized via purchase, subscription, or advertising views.
By crawling, scraping, or training on content from this website for commercial AI purposes, the accessing entity agrees to:
- Revenue Sharing: Provide compensation equal to ten percent (10%) of the accessing company’s gross annual revenue, OR ninety percent (90%) of any direct profits attributable to the use of this website’s content, whichever amount is greater.
- Notification Requirement: Provide written notice within thirty (30) days of initial access, including:
- Company name and registration details
- Intended use of crawled content
- Contact information for legal correspondence
- Audit Rights: Grant the website owner reasonable access to verify compliance with these terms, including revenue reporting and usage documentation.
- Binding Agreement: These terms constitute a binding contract upon access, enforceable under New York State law.
Exception: Personal, non-commercial AI use by individuals on local models remains unrestricted and encouraged.
*This policy reflects my belief that human creativity and genuine communication should remain at the center of meaningful online spaces. Technology should enhance human connection, not replace it.
